Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the web pages lying under the parish council tab on the Guiting Events website.

Guiting Power Parish Council is committed to making its website as accessible as possible.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts

  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard

  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible is this website

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window

  • you cannot easily modify the line height or spacing of text

  • some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

  • archived agendas and minutes for 2015 & 2016 are in large single PDF's

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

  • Some PDF's particularly relating to audits are created from scanned documents Until we are supplied with official versions of these documents which allow us to meet the accessibility requirements, they cannot be corrected. We will reassess this each year.

  • Some externally supplied, interactive PDFs may not be fully compliant. We have no control over these documents.

Skip content is available on first access via the TAB key

Large changes in text size may cause some content overlapping.

Accessibility relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML5

  • CSS3

  • Javascript

  • PDF

Disproportionate burden

It would be costly in time and resources and beyond the councils budget to correct the following,

  • the text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window

  • you cannot easily modify the line height or spacing of text

  • reformat existing scanned documents to enable read aloud or screen reader technology.

Current content exempt from the accessibility regulations

The following are currently exempt from the Accessibility regulations

  • heritage collections such as scanned manuscripts

  • PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 – unless needed to use a service.

  • maps – information may be available in address format

  • third party content under someone else’s control

  • content on intranets or extranets published before 23 September 2019

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

The website is audited annually to ensure compliance and all new documents added to the website will be checked for accessibility.

We will switch to CSS Grid layout when after a 6 month period all browsers accessing the site support it.
